WELCOME TO THIS EDITION OF THE GOOD IN GOLF.
WE APPRECIATE YOU BEING HERE.
You know … in todays world we hear a lot about things that are done for the Good of the Game. But really, what is the Good of the Game? What are the Good things about Golf? Well, that is why we are here. In each edition of this newsletter, we will recognize 3 instances about something that is Good about this game - for instance, people, places, events or experiences that truly exemplify The Good in Golf. These instances will be awarded the “Good in Golf Badge of Recognition”. You, our readers, are welcome to send us suggestions - something that you think should be included. Please email us at [email protected].
Thank you for your support and please subscribe. It will help us.
I believe Charity, giving back, giving to others, is a big part of life, and a big part of Golf.
I want to highlight those charities that are doing great things for the game. All Charities will be vetted by Charity Navigator.
These can be charitable funds, to help
Junior Golf
Veterans
Minorities
or any group that just needs a helping hand
We will highlight these funds, and charitable fundraising events, anything to assist this Good part of this game.
This issue, I want to highlight Ryan French, who publishes under the name Monday Q Info on X (link).
Ryan provides unique and excellent coverage of the golfers who pursue the dream of playing professional golf, and the efforts they put forward to qualify for tournaments.
But also, Ryan raises money when he sees a need, usually locally, to help with golf equipment or a day at the golf tournament. For example, his most recent efforts were to raise over $4300 to help a local family with special day at The Players, and then gather up 12 sets of golf clubs, a golf simulator!, new shoes. shirts and pullovers, and dozens of new balls, for a local high school.
I mean this is truly special stuff. Getting off the sidelines, helping others, being the change you you want to see in the world.
We all need to follow Ryan on X, and when Ryan is raising money for someone, or a cause, we all need to contribute something.
Congratulations Ryan on all you do.
You are hereby recognized for your charitable work with the Good In Golf Badge of Recognition.

Symbols of the Four Men’s Majors
Amongst the best events in Golf are the Men’s Majors. Major Season starts in April, with the Masters, and then proceeds with the PGA Championship (at Valhalla in May), The U.S. Open (at Pinehurst in June), and the Open Championship (at Royal Troon in July). It’s a GREAT 4 months.
Best Coverage? The Tournament Sites are getting better and better in providing coverage, before, during and after each round. Here are links to each site:
For other coverage, I like these. I am sure there are many others.

ChatGPT GOLF Self Portrait
So we’ll end this issue with an essay from ChatGPT … about the Good in Golf.
The Good in Golf: A Comprehensive Exploration
Golf is often perceived as a leisurely sport reserved for the elite, but this perception barely scratches the surface of what golf truly represents. This essay delves into the multifaceted benefits of golf, examining its positive impact on social interaction, physical health, mental well-being, and character development. By understanding these aspects, we can appreciate why golf is more than a sport; it's a beneficial activity with far-reaching advantages.
Social Interaction and Networking
One of the foremost benefits of golf is its capacity to foster social connections. Unlike many sports, golf is not confined by age or physical prowess, making it a common ground for diverse individuals. The sport encourages peaceful, friendly competition, offering a unique environment where friendships and professional relationships can flourish. Golf courses serve as venues where people from various backgrounds converge, share experiences, and create lasting bonds. This aspect of golf makes it an invaluable tool for networking, particularly in the business world, where a round of golf can pave the way for professional opportunities and collaborations.
Physical Health Benefits
The physical advantages of golf are often underestimated. Playing 18 holes involves walking over five miles, promoting cardiovascular health and endurance. The action of swinging a golf club strengthens the core and improves muscle tone, flexibility, and balance. Furthermore, golf is an outdoor activity, providing players with fresh air and exposure to nature, which have been shown to boost physical well-being. It's a sport that can be played throughout one's lifetime, encouraging an active lifestyle and contributing to prolonged physical health.
Mental Well-being and Focus
Golf is as much a mental game as it is physical. It requires concentration, strategy, and mental endurance, offering a mental workout that can reduce stress and anxiety. The focus needed to play golf diverts attention from everyday worries, providing a form of meditation in motion. This concentration on the present moment helps develop a mindful approach to life. Moreover, golf challenges individuals to manage emotions, fostering mental resilience. The patience and persistence needed on the golf course can translate into coping mechanisms off the course, aiding in personal and professional life.
Character and Ethics Development
Golf is renowned for its strict adherence to etiquette and rules, many of which are self-enforced. This aspect of the sport teaches honesty, integrity, and respect. Golfers learn to take responsibility for their actions, abide by the rules, and show respect to fellow players, which are invaluable traits in all areas of life. The game also teaches humility and patience; it’s a humbling sport where even the most skilled players can face challenges. Such experiences build character, teaching golfers to accept failure, learn from mistakes, and strive for continuous improvement.
Conclusion
The good in golf extends beyond the physical activity; it encompasses social, mental, and ethical dimensions. The sport offers a unique combination of benefits that contribute to overall well-being. It is a conduit for forming lasting relationships, a catalyst for maintaining physical health, a practice ground for mental focus, and a classroom for life lessons. Golf is a sport that provides lifelong benefits, making it a valuable activity for people of all ages and backgrounds. In recognizing the good in golf, we find a sport that truly mirrors the complexities and challenges of life itself, teaching us to navigate them with grace, patience, and perseverance.
